Islamic Legal Studies Senior Scholar Fellowships 2014-2015

The Islamic Legal Studies Program at Harvard Law School is now accepting applications for its Senior Scholar Fellowships in Islamic Legal Studies for the academic year 2014-2015. The Senior Scholar Fellowships are designed to provide senior scholars in the field the opportunity to spend an academic year or semester in residence at ILSP to research a topic of his/her choice. Preferably, that research would also relate to one of ILSP’s three research streams: Islamic Law and Legal History, Islamic Law and Society, and Islamic Law Themes in Digital Humanities.

These fellowships are non-stipendiary. Scholars will be provided with office space, access to Harvard University libraries, a networked computer, and access to a printer.

Scholars are expected to be in residence during their fellowship term and to give a public talk on their chosen topic. Scholars must also abide by other applicable terms and conditions of the program.

Applications must be received by April 1, 2014. For information on required application materials, please visit http://www.law.harvard.edu/programs/ilsp/resources/research_program.php

Annual Reunion in Madrid:

It is my great pleasure to invite all of you to the 2014 annual meeting of our Association which will take place in Madrid from May 29 to June 1, 2014.

Thanks to the help of our local organizing team, composed of Marta Zárate (LL.M. '00), José María Beneyto (LL.M. '90) and our Vice-President Alexander Chacón (J.D. '89), we have put together a diverse program with a number of cultural, academic and social highlights, including a tapas dinner and flamenco show on Thursday, a visit to Toledo on Friday and a Friday evening tour (including private cocktails and dinner!) of the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza co-hosted by my law firm Plesner.

The Saturday night gala dinner will take place at the well-located Westin Palace Hotel, which will also serve as the headquarters of the annual meeting.

You will find further information in our First Circular Letter, which you may access by clicking here.

To register for the annual meeting, you may use an electronic registration form which is available on our website (please click here).
