Composting, Recycling and Waste Reduction

Green Team Freecycle

We reduce, reuse, recycle and compost here at the law school.  Contact the HLS Program at sustainability@law.harvard.edu with any further questions or suggestions.

All in one bin:

  • Paper items & cardboard
  • Glass jars & bottles
  • Plastics (#1-7)
  • Metal cans & foil

Live off campus?  Each city has different recycling guidelines--explore some of them here: Cambridge, Somerville, Boston.

  • All food waste
  • Tea bags
  • Coffee grounds
  • Wooden stirrers
  • Napkins
  • Paper towels
  • All Hark to-go containers

Plastic bags, fils and wrappers, Styrofoam, straws and plastic utensils.

Recycle your spent and unwanted light bulbs, batteries, CDs, DVDs, cell phones, adapters and chargers, cell phones and electrical cords at the ITS Help Desks in the WCC basement and additional locations across campus.  See the University-wide map of e-waste collection points.

Please note:

  • CFLs - should also be recycled at these locations, preferably sealed in bubble-wrap
  • Lithium and Lithium-Ion batteries - prior to drop off, the battery terminals should be wrapped in tape, to reduce the possibility of short circuits and fires during transport
  • Computers, monitors, laptops, printer cartridges (both toner and inkjets), other large electronic equipment, and data for secure destruction - can be brought to the ITS Help Desks in the WCC basement for recycling

Old furniture, books, clothes, office supplies, and other non-perishable items can be dropped off at the reuse donation station in the Hark Concourse and across campus.
