Capital Defense Pro Bono Project

There is an opportunity for students to work on a capital defense case with Professor Carol Steiker as a pro bono project. The case regards Michael Addison, the first person to be sentenced to death in New Hampshire in nearly 50 years. The case gets automatic review to the New Hampshire Supreme Court and presents many issues of first impression since the states death penalty statute has never before been construed.

Students would work with the New Hampshire Public Defender and Professor Steiker throughout the spring semester. Hours spent working on this case can count towards the HLS pro bono requirement.

To apply, please send a statement of interest, resume, and transcript to Professor Carol Steiker (steiker@law.harvard.edu) by Friday, February 6.
