Student Writing Prize Submission Instructions

Submission Format and Deadline

  1. With the exception of the prizes listed in #3 below, students must submit (a) one hard copy of the paper to the Dean’s Office (Griswold 200) with a cover sheet for each prize for which the paper is to be considered, and (b) an electronic copy of the same paper and cover sheet(s) to writingprizes@law.harvard.edu with the student's name and prize title(s) in the subject line of the email.
  2. Unless otherwise noted in the prize description, students must submit their papers by 5:00 pm on April 23, 2010.
  3.  Fisher-Sander, Yong K. Kim, Laylin, Olin and Program on International Financial Systems prize submissions are not collected by the Dean’s Office.  See the prize descriptions at http://www.law.harvard.edu/academics/prizes/index.html for specific submission instructions.
  4. Submission deadlines will be strictly observed—late papers will not be accepted.

Paper Requirements

  1. Only papers written by HLS students during their enrollment at HLS will be considered for the School’s student writing prizes.
  2. All papers that have been previously submitted to journals and/or edited by others may not be submitted for a student writing prize in edited form.  Instead, students should submit the original, unedited version of the paper.
  3. One paper may be submitted for multiple prizes, but each paper is eligible to win only one of the prizes for which it is submitted.

Winning Papers

  1. The name and paper title of all prize winners will be published on the HLS website by June 1st.  Students should check here on or after that date to determine whether their paper has won.
  2. The names of graduating prize winners and prizes won will be listed in the Commencement Program.  Non-graduating prize winners’ names will be listed in the Commencement Program the year they graduate.
  3. Prize-winning papers are eligible to be published online in the School’s DASH student-paper repository at http://dash.harvard.edu/handle/1/2788313
  4. In most cases, if a prize has more than one winner, the prize money will be divided.
