Preparing for Your Advising Appointment

If this is your first appointment with OPIA, please review our self-assessment materials and come prepared to talk about your interests and goals.

Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, it’s helpful for your advisor to know a little bit about what you hope to discuss in the appointment. Use the note field in your scheduled appointment to indicate what you hope to cover and/or the types of positions you are seeking; issue areas, practice settings, and geographic preferences are all helpful to include.

You can update this information online if you did not provide it when signing up.

Be sure to upload your resume in the public interest database; it is also helpful to bring a printed copy of your  resume to your appointment. Depending on where you are in your search, you may also want to bring a list of organizations that interest you, places that you’ve already applied, and networking contacts you are considering approaching.

If you are meeting with Judy Murciano to discuss your fellowship application materials, be sure to send them to her via email at least 48 hours in advance.

You do not need to sign up for an appointment to have your resume reviewed nor should you expect that it will be critiqued in your meeting; we offer review service via email.
