Federal regulations and American Bar Association requirements mandate that all students participate in some form of financial aid counseling at the start of enrollment and prior to graduation or at the time you separate from the University. These requirements are called Entrance and Exit Interviews. The information below will help you understand the goals and requirements of these interviews.
You are encouraged to keep good records on your borrowing and can always log into MyHLSDebt to view loans that have been certified by our office. This page also lists an estimated monthly payment to help you get a general sense of what your payments might be like during repayment. As you continue to invest in your education, you can always contact our office at any time to discuss loan repayment or to ask questions about your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower. We will make every effort to ensure that you are aware of the implications of your borrowing as you pursue your studies.
The Entrance interview is an online form which details your rights and responsibilities as an education loan borrower. You will complete this form during the summer prior to your 1L year. It will be valid for your entire 3 years at law school. We will only be able to disburse your federal funds after you have completed this on-line form.
The Exit Interviews take place during the spring of your last semester at HLS or upon your leave or withdrawal from the University. They will occur in two ways; a group meeting with Student Financial Services and through the completion of online forms. Any student who has borrowed one or more loans to finance their law degree will need to fulfill this requirement before they can receive their HLS diploma.
