Out of fairness to families that meet our application requirements, no HLS Grant aid will be offered to students whose parents refuse to provide required financial information. For students in this situation, education loans are readily available, to fully finance education–related costs.
In cases of parental divorce, it is HLS policy to require financial information from both biological parents in order to assess need. This documentation is required by HLS even in cases where court-ordered child support obligations have ended.
In rare and exceptional cases, the Financial Aid Committee may waive the required submission of parental information. These decisions are made on a case-by-case basis depending on the particular circumstances involved. Students who wish to have their circumstances considered should initiate a request by submitting the following web form and carefully follow the instructions on this from to submit any additional required information.Petition to Waive Parent Info. Web Form
Supporting documentation, such as a third-party letter from a person familiar with the circumstances (social worker, counseling professional, member of clergy, attorney, etc.) and/or court documents, must be submitted in addition to the web form.
If the Financial Aid Committee waives the requirement of parental information for either or both parents in answer to an appeal, it may in some cases establish a minimum imputed parental contribution representing an average parental contribution assessment. Students can readily borrow to replace the amount of an imputed parental contribution in a financial aid package.
