Pro Bono Service Opportunities

Since public service is not limited to work within the United States, HLS students are encouraged to undertake pro bono work in other countries and on international issues, under the auspices of the Pro Bono Service Program.

Twenty-three members of the J.D. Class of 2005 fulfilled the pro bono requirement with international placements funded through the HLS Summer Public Interest Funding Program. Examples include the European Roma Rights Center in Hungary, Transparency International in Kenya, Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales in Argentina, and the United Nations Development Program in Mongolia. As well, students can complete pro bono work with individual members of the faculty or through clinical programs or involvement in research centers and student organizations such as the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, the Harvard Immigration and Refugee Clinic, the Human Rights Program and Direct Action, among others.
