Career Advising

HLS helps prepare students to pursue a variety of career paths in countries around the world. The Office of Career Services (OCS) and the Bernard Koteen Office of Public Interest Advising (OPIA) are dedicated to helping HLS students determine how best to achieve their career goals whether in the U.S. or elsewhere. Both offices organize informational and training events on such topics as interviewing with an international law firm or the many facets of public international law. OCS and OPIA also distribute publications, provide individual counseling and assistance, and offer students access to extensive databases of actual job listings and an on-line advising network. In short, OCS and OPIA work with students to find the international jobs that are right for them — be they in non-U.S. law firms or foreign offices of American firms, with inter-governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, or academic institutions.

OPIA also co-sponsors the Chayes International Public Service Fellowship and employs two student advisors to help other students find internationally-focused summer placements.

In addition, HLS faculty members, senior administrators, and alumni are valuable resources for information and guidance about international career opportunities.
