Digital Scanning Now Available in the Library

A new, do-it-yourself digital scanning station has been set up in the main copy room on Langdell three.

The new FREE scanning station located in the copy room on Langdell 3.

For the convenience of patrons and in response to numerous student requests, the library has installed a new heavy-duty digital scanning station. The new machine is located in the main copy room on Langdell level three. The station is comprised of a dedicated, stand-alone scanning unit (similar to a photocopy machine) and an adjacent control kiosk with keyboard and mouse.

Straightforward instructions for using the scanner are attached to the kiosk, from which all scanning operations are controlled. (Please Note: only use the control kiosk. Do not adjust any of the controls on the scanner unit itself as this may leave the scanner disabled for the next user.) The unit has been configured for easy, do-it-yourself use and, best of all, the new service is absolutely free!

Scanned output can be retrieved either by email or via a, user-supplied, USB flash drive. (For speed and reliability, flash drive output is generally preferable.) Please refer to the instructions attached to the machine for further information about using the machine and output options.

As with all in-house computer equipment, problems with the scanner should be reported to the library's Tech RAs. The Tech RAs are located at the Langdell circulation desk and can also be reached at (617) 496-2573 or emailed at librtech@law.harvard.edu. Comments about the new scanning service can also be directed to the library's general email account.

We hope you find the new service useful.
