HOLLIS & Other Catalogs

An extremely efficient and highly effective strategy when beginning a research project is to use a catalog to quickly locate potentially useful materials contained in a library's collection, including books, journals, newspapers, photographs, art, music, movies, manuscripts, personal papers and online databases. Pretty much anything the library owns, licenses, or considers part of its collection. The following are selected Harvard University catalogs as well as catalogs of collections beyond Harvard. HOLLIS | HOLLIS Classic

Use HOLLIS to find books and other materials available at Harvard University libraries, including the Law School Library. HOLLIS Classic, the older interface to the catalogs of the Harvard University libraries, remains available. Use My Account/Renew (Harvard University ID and PIN required) to access to your library circulation records, renew and request items online, and specify the display options you prefer for your HOLLIS Classic sessions. British Library Integrated Catalogue

The British Library Integrated Catalogue is the main catalogue of the British Library containing records for over 12 million books, serials, printed music and maps. British Library Catalogues provides a listing of several additional catalogues for special materials which supplement the Integrated Catalogue.

Catalog of U.S. Government Publications

The Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP) is a finding tool for both historical and current Federal publications. CGP includes descriptive records and provides direct links to those that are available online. Search by authoring agency, title, subject and general keyword.

Harvard Geospatial Library

The Harvard Geospatial Library offers search tools for finding geographic data, GIS data for download, and on-line geographic data exploration tools.

Harvard Google Book Search

Harvard Google Book Search allows you to search the full text of all books available in Google Book Search with a Find at Harvard University link displayed on every item in your search result set.

IndexMaster

IndexMaster is a compilation of the tables of contents and indexes from over 10,000 legal titles from over 90 legal publishers.

IQSS Dataverse Network

The IQSS Dataverse Network provides access the world's largest collection of social science research data archives or dataverses. Dataverse collections include ICPRS, Roper, NARA, Census Bureau and Numeric Data Services. (Harvard University ID and PIN required.)

LawTRIO

LawTRIO is a fully-searchable database indexing legal titles drawn from Legal Looseleafs in Print (Reference Desk KF 1 .L43x), Legal Newsletters in Print (Reference Desk KF 1 .L44) and the Directory of Law-Related CD-ROMs (ILS Reference Desk K 87 .D57).

Library of Congress Catalog

The Library of Congress serves as the research arm of the United States Congress. It is also the largest library in the world, with nearly 128 million items on approximately 530 miles of bookshelves. The collections include more than 29 million books and other printed materials, 2.7 million recordings, 12 million photographs, 4.8 million maps, and 57 million manuscripts.

Lib-Web-Cats

Lib-Web-Cats is directory of libraries worldwide. Each listing includes links to the library's web site and online catalog. Other information available includes the geographic location, address, library type, current and previous library automation systems used, and the size of the library's collection.

NELLCO Member Catalogs

Use the NELLCO Member Catalogs links to search the catalogs of such law libraries as those of Boston University, Columbia, NYU, Social Law and Yale. The New England Law Library Consortium is a non-profit corporation composed of academic, private non-profit, and government law libraries.

OASIS: Online Archival Search Information System

The OASIS: Online Archival Search Information System allows users to search a small but growing percentage of the finding aids for archival and manuscript materials found at Harvard University and Radcliffe Institute. There are over forty archival and manuscript repositories at Harvard and Radcliffe, all specializing in differing, though sometimes overlapping, subject areas.

Open Library

The Open Library, whose ultimate goal is one web page for every book ever published, allows everyone to catalog, edit and comment upon books. The Open Library is a project of the Internet Archive.

VIA: Visual Information Access

VIA: Visual Information Access is a union catalog of visual resources at Harvard University and Radcliffe Institute. VIA includes information about slides, photographs, portraits, objects and artifacts in the University's libraries, museums and archives. Many VIA records include a digitized image.
