Search Plugins
Have you ever used the small search box in the upper-right corner of your browser? Ever wished you could use it to search the Harvard Law School Library web site? or to search HOLLIS? Now you can using search plugins created by the library. The HLSL search plugins conform to the OpenSearch standard, which is supported by Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 7. The HLSL search plugins may be added to your Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 7 search boxes using the autodiscovery method or by using the links below. The HLSL search plugins support the Firefox 2 Suggested Terms feature.
Adding Search Engines to the Firefox 2 Search Bar
If you are reading this using Firefox 2, your search box (called the Search Bar) should have a blue glow alerting you to the presence of search plugins (called Search Engines). Click the down arrow in your Search Bar to view a list of the Search Engines being offered by this page. The list appears just below the list of your already installed Search Engines. If one interests you, click the Add link. Click Manage Search Engines to organize your Search Engines and to remove Search Engines. Once you add a Search Engine, you may have to restart Firefox for it to appear in your list.
Adding Search Providers to the Internet Explorer 7 Instant Search Box
If you are reading this using Internet Explorer 7, your search box (called the Instant Search Box) should have an orange glow alerting you to the presence of search plugins (called Search Providers). Click the down arrow in your Search Box to view a list of the Search Providers being offered by this page. The list appears just below the list of your already installed Search Providers. Only the first three new Search Providers are displayed at a time. These must be added before others can be displayed. New Search Providers are marked with an orange sun. Simply click one to try it out without adding it to your list. If you would like to add one to your list, click Add Search Providers. Click Change Search Defaults to set your default Search Provider and to remove Search Providers from your list. The default Search Provider is also used to perform searches from the Address Bar.
