Finding Judgments Online for Canada's Federal Courts
Canadian federal court decisions or judgments can be found online in the following fee databases. As coverage included within fee databases may change from time to time, it is always best to check the source coverage of a database file when conducting research.
Westlaw:
- CANFC-CS (Federal Court of Canada). This file includes coverage from the Federal Court Reports, from 1971-present, and from the Exchequer Court Reports, from 1875-1970.
- CANFED-CS (Canada Federal Case Law). This file also includes coverage from the Federal Court Reports, from 1971-present, and from the Exchequer Court Reports, from 1875-1970, as well as all reported decisions reported by the Tax Court of Canada.
- CAN-ALLCASES (Canada All Cases). This file includes coverage of the Federal Court Reports from 1971-present, the Exchequer Court Reports from 1875-1920, with extensive coverage of additional reported decisions from the Federal Court from 1976-present.
- CANTCC-CS (Tax Court of Canada). This file includes coverage of reported decisions from the Tax Court of Canada from 1983-present.
Lexis:
- CANFCR (Canada Federal Court Reports): This file includes full-text coverage, including headnotes, of the federal court reports from 1971 to the present time.
- FEDCC (Federal Court Cases). This file includes coverage of the Trial Division of the Federal Court of Canada from 1986, as well as all decisions from the Federal Court of Appeal since August 2002, and selected coverage of decisions from the Supreme Court of Canada which were appealed from the Federal Court from 1991 to 1999.
- EXCR (Exchequer Court Reports) . The Exchequer Court was replaced by the Federal Court of Canada in 1970. Decisions of this court are included in this file, with coverage from 1882-1970. Per Lexis's scope note, users should note that this file should not be considered an official file for Exchequer Reports.
- CANCAS (Canadian Cases). This is a group file that includes all reported and unreported decisions from various Canadian courts and tribunals.
- CANTCT (Canadian Tax Court). This file includes coverage of decisions rendered by the Tax Court of Canada, from 1993-present.
- NATC (National Cases). This file includes selected coverage of decisions from the Federal Court of Appeal from 1974 to July 2002.
